The seven swords are special swords that only the seven swordsmen can master its abilities. The swordsmen, however, varies by generation and the swords are passed along.

Each sword carries different abilities, and Suigetsu is after them. Not to collect the swords but to form a new group of swordsmen who will master the swords.

The first of the seven swords Suigetsu has ever seen was Sabuza’s Great Beheader. He would use it on battle but later on lost it during his captivity. During his encounter with Kisame, he was able to see the Samehada.

Suigetsu has a very high interest of collecting the seven swords. His purpose is to form a new group of Swordsmen, him being the leader.

The seven swordsmen are on battle with Kakashi and team. They do not have their swords when they appear, but Mangetsu summoned all of them so they can use full power to destroy opponents. I would assume that later on, the swordsmen will be defeated and the swords, will they vanish also or will Suigetsu be able to collect them for his purpose?
